PROFILE

Forneus was given the aspect of Time at some point, thus elevating him to not only a deity but an existence that transcended temporal limitations. He is highly eccentric and seems to lack a lot of common sense, but he does try to learn and take feedback from those in his employ.

His ultimate goal is to free Teyvat's people from their predestined fates, even if it is at the cost of going against his pantheon and facing his own oblivion.

➤ THE STORY SO FAR

In January 2021, people from other worlds were brought to Mondstadt. They were each given a Vision and a residence within the city, but without any knowledge of how they got here or what they were supposed to do. They also realized that time around them seems to reset every week, looping around after seven days.

Characters experienced an attack on Mondstadt by the dragon Stormterror in Feburary 2021. Time advanced when they helped out around Mondstadt to aid the city's reconstruction and to disable the ancient temples that gave Stormterror his power. Research by the outlanders (as they were called by Teyvat natives) led them to discover that Stormterror was actually Dvalin, who had once protected Mondstadt in the past and was a good friend of the Anemo Archon.

In March 2021, the outlanders were able to explore Stormterror's Lair. They also happened upon artifacts or trinkets from other characters' homes that gave them insight into each other's memories. The time loops continued to happen, but more and more permanent changes began to appear throughout the loops as a result of their actions. The outlanders discovered that Dvalin lashed out at Mondstadt due to an Abyssal poison clouding his mind and making him more aggressive at being forgotten. They decided to try and remove the poison so that he could be free from this torment.

At last, the outlanders battled Dvalin in April 2021 and were able to free him from his Abyssal curse. They were then invited to the annual Windblume Festival as a sign of the natives' gratitude. At the same time, the outlanders' host finally made himself known - the God of Time, Forneus, having made a contract with every outlander to free Teyvat from a predestined fate. He explained that the people of Teyvat received a concrete destiny from birth, and it could not be changed no matter how much the individual tried to go against it. These destinies could predict a downfall or a perilous fate regardless of what the person was like. Forneus wished for humanity to be free from such limitations. People from other worlds would not be restricted by fate, and thus he invited them to Teyvat to aid him in his quest. Forneus was responsible for both the time loops and for erasing everyone's memories of their arrival. After strong insistence from the outlanders, he has stopped doing both.

In the latter half of April, Forneus guided the outlanders to explore Dragonspine Mountain, an eternally frozen mountain to the southwest of Mondstadt. The mountain had been placed under everlasting winter by the gods, and the outlanders stepped into a lost city buried by the snow, witnessing the aftermath of divine punishment on an unknowing civilization. Vindagnyr was frozen thousands of years ago by the will of Celestia, and was thus forgotten by humanity after most of its inhabitants were killed. They also found the corpse of a corrupted dragon on the side of Dragonspine Mountain. Durin, whom Dvalin valiantly fought against, still lingered on Teyvat due to his Abyss corruption. The dragon's Abyss influence is kept in check by Dragonspine's eternal ice.

The Travelers explored Vindagnyr in May 2021, making a collective decision to tell the Mondstadt Adventurers' Guild about what they discovered. Shirou and Elliot also spearheaded an effort to try and purify Durin's heart using a White Tree seed. The White Trees, found in the centre of some domains, had the ability to purify and recycle mana around them. They succeeded in germinating a seed on Durin's heart, however the surge of purified magic caused Cryo Regisvines to rouse from their hibernation and the Travelers were forced to go for a spot of extreme gardening.

The first half of June 2021 was spent traveling from Mondstadt to Liyue. Characters were able to take a break and enjoy some downtime after the previous five months of hard work, as well as learn more about Liyue's culture. They acquired portable housing in the second half of June, being able to design their own teapot realms for residence while on the road.

July 2021 had the Travelers face both the Fatui and the demon god Osial, defeating it with the help of the Adepti and Liyue's own people. The demonstration of humanity's power was enough to convince the Adepti of their potential, and reassured the Geo Archon that he could step down in peace. Osial was not only defeated, but also shattered - its divine power dispersed and partly subsumed by Forneus to allow him manifestation in the physical world.

Liyue prepared for the Lantern Rite in August 2021, though the simultaneous emergence of Geovishaps and numerous earthquakes around Nantianmen spelled impending danger for the nation. The Travelers helped investigate the disturbances, eventually uncovering their cause - the sealed King of Geovishaps, Azhdaha, who had forgotten his bond with Liyue over time and now only sought revenge. The battle with Azhdaha quelled his rage, and Forneus helped restore his sanity so that his story can have a happy ending.

➤ THE BENEFACTOR

Through conversations with the Travelers, Forneus has shared some facts about himself.

➛ Due to being the God of Time, he has a multidimensional existence and cannot be killed by Celestia. However, he is bound by his contract with Celestia and it limits his ability to intervene in the physical world. As a result he hasn't left his 'office' for a really long time.

➛ This is the first time he's actively talking to living people. He's talked to his fellow gods before though.

➛ His current appearance is an avatar, and his true body is elsewhere. Trying to perceive his true form as a mortal would cause instant death.

➛ He has bound the Travelers' souls to his own existence, and can revive them if they die. He says it's 'troublesome' to do it though, so please don't die.

➛ He is also responsible for giving Travelers their Visions and also a false Constellation so that they can blend in with the native population.

➛ He is not native to Teyvat, and was approached by Celestia to maintain the aspect of Time for them due to not being able to find any other suitable candidate.

➛ Traveling between dimensions is an ability native to his race and his race only. His mastery of Time is also related to his species.

➛ He comes from a place called the 'First City', though he can no longer return to it as it has been destroyed.

➤ FATE OF THE GODS

What is fate?

Fate in Teyvat is a very real thing. Each sentient individual possesses a personal Constellation, a pattern in the stars above that represents themselves. This Constellation is also what gives them their destiny. For the outlanders who come from other worlds, Forneus gives them a false Constellation to blend in with the natives. However, this Constellation does not dictate their actions or their fates - therefore, false.

Everything on Teyvat is preordained. Entire civilizations have fallen because it was their fate, or as divine punishment from Celestia, the island in the sky where most of Teyvat's gods rule from. The politics and decisions of the gods are opaque to even their own people. However, by painstakingly uncovering what is buried and piecing together their histories, it may be possible to make sense of what Celestia considers heresy.

After all, humans are to gods what insects are to humans. Disposable, inferior, inconsequential. To change the fate of humanity is to also change the fate of the gods who rule over them. The God of Time has a plan, and it involves freeing Teyvat piece by piece. One thing is certain: eventually, the outlanders will come into conflict with the divine. Will it end in peace, or end in battle? Not even Forneus can tell you that.
